Prayer intentions for the week (2009-05-18)
First, I’d like to apologise for the silence on this blog… I’m still alive, things are just very tough at the moment for me. This might be the last time I blog for a while, but rest assured I will be back once things have blown over.
Anyway, onto this week’s prayer intentions…
Trustworthy government
Recent weeks have brought a number of MP expenses scandals that have damaged not only the reputation of individual politicians or parties, but the system of government as a whole. A lack of ethics has brought the House of Commons into disrepute, with many people losing faith in politics. If you’re not aware of what’s going on, every Member of Parliament (MP) in the UK is entitled to an allowance to help them do their job. So, they may need money for transport to and from London, for example. However, some politicians have been abusing their allowance by filing claims for absurdities like mortgages that have already been paid and even a moat!
I pray that the system mends itself out in time for the next general election; it’s important that people can trust their democracy.
Prisoners
As Catholics, we respect human life regardless of the circumstances because every human life has value in itself. Sometimes it can be all too easy to forget about prisoners, or to get swept away with hatred from the media. Yes, most deserve their punishment, but they are still human… they still feel loneliness and guilt, as we all do. Without consideration for their crime, we must be willing to consider those who seek forgiveness.
I pray that people have the decency to forgive prisoners who seek forgiveness, and that God gives strength to those prisoners who do not yet want reconciliation.
